Μετά από πρόσκληση του IEEE Student Branch ΑΤΕΙΤΗΕ, την Τρίτη 2 Μαΐου 2017 και ώρα 13:00 (αίθουσα 102) η κυρία Ελισάβετ Γρηγορίου (πτυχιούχος του Τμήματος μας και μέλος του Ερευνητικού Εργαστηρίου ΣΥΑΔ) θα πραγματοποιήσει ομιλία με τίτλο “Quality of Experience and Software Defined Networking for Future Smart Networks”.
Δρ. Περικλής Χατζημίσιος
IEEE ATEITHE Student Branch Counselor
Future networks will rely on heterogeneous wireless and wired physical infrastructures as well as a significant amount of multimedia traffic. The expected explosion of traffic will lead to inefficient utilization of resources which necessitates future network resources to be unified and dynamically pooled as well as offered in As-a-Service fashion to multiple end-users. Furthermore, issues such as lack of flexibility and agility are going to be observed, especially in the case of new multimedia services such as teleconference, telemedicine, etc. In today’s competitive environment, users have the option to choose from a variety of Service Providers. Therefore, the service availability is not enough anymore. Thus, Service Providers must deliver their services in such a way that users will fully enjoy a rich experience at a reasonable price with an improved Quality of Experience (QoE). Moreover, future networks will be accompanied by new heterogeneous requirements in terms of end-users QoE due to the increasing number of application scenarios being deployed. Network softwarization technologies such as Software Defined Networks (SDNs) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) promise to provide these capabilities.
Elisavet Grigoriou received a B.Sc. in “Informatics” (2012) and a M.Sc in “Web Intelligence” (2015) from the Alexander TEI of Thessaloniki, Greece. She was a member of the Computing Systems, Security and Networks (CSSN) Research Lab in Alexander TEI of Thessaloniki and her research mainly focused on Wireless Communication Protocols (particularly in Long Term Evolution). Her M.Sc. Thesis (through the Erasmus+ program) was part of the “Smartworld” project in CTTC in Barcelona. After her graduation, she worked as an “Internet-of-Things” Engineer in the “MyCompany Projects” Company (Thessaloniki, Greece). Since November 2015, she works in the QoE-Net Project as Early Stage Researcher under a prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship. Moreover, she is a member of the Multimedia & Communications Laboratory (MCLab) of the University of Cagliari (Faculty of Engineering) and since October 2016 she is a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Luigi Atzori and Prof. Virginia Pilloni. Her main research topic in the QoE-Net project is “Quality of Experience management strategies for future smart networks”. In the recent past, she has been a Visiting Researcher in Deutsche Telekom (Berlin, Germany) for 4 months working on network service provider perspectives. During Spring 2016, she was Teaching Lab Assistant for BSc and MSc students on the “Internet“ (CCNA Routing and Switching) course at the University of Cagliari. Her other major research interests include Software Defined Networks, Semantic Web and Internet-of-Things. Moreover, she is reviewer for the IEEE Communication Magazine, IEEE VTC 2017 and QEEMS 2017.
